IN lambasting Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) president Abu Samah Wahab for his remarks about the formation of the Terengganu continental team that gathered momentum during the festive period, Sports Advisory Panel (SAP) member Shaharuddin Jaffar has called for the long serving head honcho to resign.
Citing the gravity of the remarks, which he expected would have an adverse affect on the plans of the team, Shaharuddin said Abu Samah had again demonstrated weaknesses within the parent body "to manage simple situations and assist plans that would help the development of cycling."
Abu Samah had appeared in various press reports stating his discontentment about the formation of the Terengganu team which would be funded by the state government with an aim of competing in the country's biggest race -- Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL).
"I am amused about how this was made an issue in an era where we should be moving towards professionalism. In making such statements, Abu Samah is only demonstrating that the federation is incapable of doing their job and are happy to be a hindrance to the development of cycling," said Shaharuddin, 66, who is known for his outspokeness and is himself a former secretary of the MNCF and former national cycling.
"It is not something that's so difficult to do. All that was needed to be done was for the Terengganu team to be advised sufficiently on the procedures since this is the first time they are pursuing such an effort. Of course, in their enthusiasm they might forget a few things, and that is why the MNCF should be there to guide them, not to be publicly humiliated in the way Abu Samah has done."
Abu Samah was reported as saying the team had not followed procedures set by the International Cycling Union (UCI) regarding registration and rider contracts. He had also feared that the formation of the team would disrupt the smooth flowing of the national road programme and employment of several riders shortlisted by the team. He had also raised issues regarding insurance, rider contracts, bank guarantees and the uncertain future of the team if it were to be formed merely compete in LTdL.
On top of that, Abu Samah stated in one press report that the team should have consulted his office before publicising the plan in the press. From feedback given from a number of MNCF council members, it was found that the matter had been discussed and the formation of the team given the greenlight in a previous MNCF council meeting.
Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said has also openly expressed his displeasure with Abu Samah in a statement that circulated on Thursday. Ahmad went as far as stating that the state government would have no problems in not forming the team if the MNCF had too many problems with it.

sefaham saya, PKBM nak berhati2 supaya nasib pelumba tak terabai kemudian hari... sampai suruh quit tak payah lah. QUIT kalau pelumba2 tak perform ke... ok lee... kalau mcm skrg OK apa, taraf dunia pelumba2 kita

Terima kasih atas apa dan segala pendapat tuan/puan berikan di sini. Apa jua kritikan positif dan negatif perlu di ambil untuk penilaian dalam memajukan sukan berbasikal negara malaysia.
Ramai orang, banyak ragam. Ada yang ikhlas, ada yang mengambil kesempatan dengan keputusan yang ada sekarang.
Jadi, yang di dalam serta di luar perlu berganding. Saya juga tahu, beberapa yang ada tidak seikhlas dalam menaikkan sukan ini, kerana mereka datang dengan sesuap nasi dan juga ' memandai -mandai & mengampu yang keterlaluan' kononnya.
Kita berharap semua sokongan yang ada perlu bijak mengunakan dengan saluran yang tepat lebih-lebih lagi dalam pembangunan yang agak muram.
Peluang yang ada, pembangunan kepada generasin(bakal senior) baru perlu di gerak dari sekarang.
